Charlottesville CNC Slab Flattening Services
At The Fine Grainery, we are based in Fluvanna County in Central Virginia and serve the Charlottesville, Richmond, Lynchburg, Harrisonburg, and surrounding areas with cnc slab flattening and epoxy flattening services. Whether you're preparing live edge slabs, custom projects like laminated glue-ups or tabletops with or without epoxy, our advanced equipment ensures precise, smooth results while maintaining the natural beauty of your materials.
Our 12 HP CNC machine, featuring a fully steel-welded frame, operates faster and more efficiently than traditional machines, allowing us to handle large-scale projects with ease. Using a 3" carbide-tipped flattening bit, we deliver a smooth finish surface that will still require sanding and finishing for a polished final look, but will also save you many hours of finishing work to get a perfectly flat, coplanar surface.
Versatile Flattening Options
With a CNC bed that accommodates projects up to 49 inches wide by 97 inches tall, we can flatten a wide range of large-scale wood products, including:
Live edge slabs
Laminated glue-ups
Coffee tables
Tabletops
Sliced wood cookies
And more
Flattening your wood products with us ensures professional-grade results, preparing your materials for the next stage of your project while saving you time and effort.
Affordable and Transparent Pricing
Typical slab flattening is priced on an hourly basis ranging from $100-$150 per hour with most jobs taking at least 1.5 - 2 hours. However, our pricing is based on the square footage of material per side, regardless of the amount needing to be taken off. With our pricing, customers don’t have to worry about when the hourly timer starts or when the timer ends. At The Fine Grainery, pricing is transparent and easy to calculate with the rate depending on whether the material includes epoxy.
Non-Epoxy Filled Slabs: $5 per square foot
Epoxy-Filled Slabs: $7.50 per square foot
The epoxy pricing applies if more than 50% of the total square footage of the material contains epoxy fill.
To calculate your per-sided estimate, use this formula:
(Max width in inches × Max length in inches)
÷ 144
× Rate
For example, if your slab is 36 inches wide and 72 inches long, the calculation for a non-epoxy slab would be:
(36” × 72”)
÷ 144
× $5 = $90 per side
Minimum cost is $50 if the total surfacing square footage is under 10 square feet, roughly 36” x 40” or 24” x 60” single sided. However, double sided flattening is recommended for a coplanar final product.
