Spring 2026: Where Things Stand at The Fine Grainery

Spring has a way of arriving with equal parts excitement and reality check. For a small business like ours, the new year always brings a reminder of how hard this actually is — and how much work goes into keeping things moving between the busy seasons. But it also brings a chance to step back, look at what's working, and share where we're headed.

So that's what this is. An honest update on where The Fine Grainery stands heading into spring 2026 — what we've been building behind the scenes, where you can find us in person, and what's new in the shop.

A Quick Look Back

If you've followed The Fine Grainery for a while, you might remember the bread bow knife frenzy of Christmas 2024. It was our first real taste of what online demand could look like when the right product finds the right audience — and it was controlled chaos in the best possible way. We learned a lot about what we're capable of when things move fast.

Christmas 2025 brought a new chapter — book buddies. For those unfamiliar, the book buddy is a simple hardwood page holder that keeps your place and your thumb comfortable while you read. It sounds modest, but it found its people. Throughout 2025 it was one of our steadiest sellers, quietly making its way to readers and book lovers across the country. So when the post-Thanksgiving rush hit, we weren't caught off guard. We were ready. Orders went out the door without missing a beat.

Two years in a row of proving the operation works when product demand surges. Now we're channeling that same energy into making 2026 work year round — not just in December.

A New Look Online

One of the biggest things we've been working on behind the scenes is our website. If you haven't visited recently, we'd love for you to take a look — thefinegrainery.com.

We spent a good chunk of the early part of this year rebuilding it from the ground up. The old site worked, but it didn't tell the story of what The Fine Grainery has become. Better organization, cleaner navigation, and a shopping experience that actually reflects the quality of what we make. We've gotten more intentional about what we offer and how we present it — and the new site reflects that.

Part of that intentionality is how we've organized the shop itself. Rather than a long list of products, everything now lives within one of three collections — each one built around a different part of your home and daily life. It made us think harder about what we make, why we make it, and who it's really for.

Which brings me to something we're genuinely excited about.

Three Collections, One Standard

We've organized everything we make into three collections — and if you haven't explored them yet, we think you'll find something that speaks to you.

The Cooking Collection

Herb strippers, spatulas, spoon rests, cutting boards — functional tools made from real hardwood that earn a permanent spot on your counter rather than getting buried in a drawer. These are the pieces that make cooking feel a little more intentional. And if you know someone who cooks, they make gifts that actually get used.

The Hosting Collection

Charcuterie boards, bread bow knives, wine caddies — the kind of pieces that make entertaining feel a little more special and a little more you. There's something about setting out a board made from real walnut or white oak that changes the energy of a gathering. Hard to go wrong as a housewarming or host gift either.

The Living Collection

Plant stands, book buddies, propagation stations — pieces that bring warmth and character to the spaces you spend time in. These tend to be the ones that spark conversation when someone notices them. Some of our most popular gifts for readers, plant lovers, and anyone who appreciates something made by hand.

Every piece is made by hand in our Virginia workshop from carefully selected hardwoods — designed to feel as good as they look and built to last a long time.

Getting More Intentional About Where We Show Up

Last year we pushed hard — more events, more locations, more weekends away from the shop. We learned a lot from that season but honestly, it wore us out. Spreading thin across too many shows meant less energy for each one, less time in the shop making things right, and more weekends away from home than made sense.

This year we're being more deliberate. There's something about an in-person show that can't be replicated online — getting a piece of walnut in someone's hands, watching them feel the weight of it, seeing the moment it clicks. That experience deserves our full attention. So we're choosing shows that feel like the right fit for what we make and the customers we want to connect with.

Here's where you can find us this spring:

  • April 11–12 — Carytown Spring Festival, Richmond, VA

  • May 22–24 — Bodacious Bazaar, Hampton, VA

  • June 6–7 — Occoquan RiverFest, Occoquan, VA

For those of you who look for us at Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival each spring — we're on the waitlist this year and hopeful. We'll keep you posted.

We're still adding to the calendar as things get confirmed. You can always find our most up to date schedule at thefinegrainery.com/calendar-of-events.

A Thank You and a Little Something Extra

If you've made it this far, thank you. genuinely. This business exists because people care about where things come from, who makes them, and what they're made of. Every order, every share, every person who stops at our booth and picks something up — it's what keeps us going, especially on the hard days.

As a thank you to our readers and subscribers, we're offering 15% off everything in the shop through the end of March. Use code SPRING15 at checkout at thefinegrainery.com. And as always, any order over $100 ships free.

We're looking forward to a good spring. Hope to see you out there.
