Supporting the ‘Where Angels Play’ playground in memory of Nick Winum

Officer nick winum

On February 26, 2021, police officer Dominic “Nick” Winum lost his life in the line of duty. This tragedy left the Shenandoah Valley community of Stanley, Virginia in sorrow. In February 2022, the Where Angels Play Foundation announced plans to construct a playground in honor of Officer Winum. The Where Angels Play Foundation was born out of tragedy following the Sandy Hook elementary shooting in 2012. They have been able to fund more than ten playgrounds to date. Local fundraising efforts support these playgrounds and the proposed one in Stanley is no exception. Once the project is 70% funded, the break ground date will be planned, however it is projected to begin in 2023.

In support of Where Angels Play and the playground in memory of Officer Winum, I will be donating 50% of the proceeds on the Thin Blue Line Magnet and Badge Reel for the entire month of October (EDIT: through December 2022). The Thin Blue Line products were specially made for this cause. They are constructed from 1/8” thick walnut plywood that has been laser engraved and laser cut. It has a blue acrylic inlay for the thin blue line. These two products will be available for purchase both online and in person at the upcoming events I will be attending, including the Page County Heritage Festival October 8-9. I have a large inventory of these but I encourage folks to order online and pickup in person, especially if coming to the in-person events. This will allow me to keep enough inventory on hand for the in person transactions. Every order will be filled and at the end of the month, I will donate 50% of the proceeds to the foundation.

I heard about the incident when it happened with my wife’s family being from Page County. I’ve been to Stanley many times and the community reminds me of the small town I grew up in down in Southwest Virginia. I have family members and friends that have served and currently serving in the line of duty to protect their communities. Let’s help get this playground funded and let it be a wonderful tribute to Nick and his lasting legacy.
